PORTFOLIO: INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN PROJECTS
These are some of my instructional design samples.
Keep in mind: the content you see could be replaced with your content, such as:
product training and professional development
professional certification and continuing educational (CEU) training
workplace training for ADA, workplace culture/belonging, safety, and security

Design Document: Google Docs & Job Aid: Canva
The design document sample is a design document my team used to organize their course revision process for a grant-funded project. The document was a draft from a grant manager who needed to organize the revisions, and our team needed it to be built for instructional designer use. So, I rebuilt it. I added dropdown menus to make quick selections, included spaces to write in information and guided how to use the doc, where needed.
I also made a job aid to show the instructional designers how to use the design document.
Infographics: Canva
Infographics help everyone learn better. I love designing them because they are easy to use, and produce powerful, well-designed learning tools. The example presented here concerns inclusion in the workplace.
The second example involves baking a special loaf of bread called challah. I was the subject-matter expert for the content in each of these pieces.
Animated Video: Vyond
In Vyond, I created a project plan and process to complete a project in five days. The video shows how I lead teams to plan out their projects with a quick turnaround time, receive and incorporate feedback, and finish with time to spare. While the content was created for university learners, I could make this video easily using any content for your audience.
Slide Deck: PowerPoint & VoiceThread
The "Energy Efficient Measures" is a short, narrated slide deck that allows learners to interact with it. My narration asks the learner to post a response to the discussion question. The slide deck was built with PowerPoint and then uploaded to VoiceThread to allow learners to interact with each other in a discussion forum. Other discussion tools like Harmonize, InScribe, PackBack, Perusall, or Yellowdig would also work to engage the learner in the content.
Sample Syllabi
I have a some examples of syllabi from the courses I have taught. Each syllabus has an alignment table that shares the connections between the learning objectives and, learning activities, and instructional materials.
LMS: Course Tour
This is a course tour from my introductory global health course on Canvas. I use Canvas regularly for the courses I design for university students. I have also designed courses in other LMSs. As a designer, I have experience working with subject-matter experts to build courses in D2L Brightspace, Canvas, and Moodle.
Click on the D2L Brightspace LMS button for another one of my course tours from an introductory human origins course. I was both the designer and subject-matter expert for those courses.
Interactive Learning: Articulate Rise
This is an Articulate Rise sample (I recommend clicking the link to see the sample in a separate tab.). The content is from one of the first lessons I gave in my introductory anthropology and biology courses. My goal with Rise courses is to ensure they are accessible and easy to use. I've built several courses using Rise and integrated them into learning management systems (using SCORM) like Canvas, D2L Brightspace, and Moodle. All I need is the content and your vision to create it for you.
Interactive Learning: 7Taps
This is a 7Taps microlearning sample (I recommend clicking the link to see the sample in a separate tab.). The content, like in the Rise course, is from one of the first lessons that I used to give in my introductory anthropology and biology courses when I was a college professor. What I find unique about the learning experience in 7Taps is how portable it is. I can build a course quickly and at high quality for something that will likely be accessed on a mobile device. It's also scalable and accessible.
Interactive Learning: H5P
H5P is an open educational resource (OER) tool that can create interactive and adaptive experiences. This is a "What is Science" booklet (I recommend clicking the link to see the sample in a separate tab.). It includes
an embedded video with pop-up questions,
a drag-and-drop fill-in-the-blank question exercise, and
a reflection exercise to encourage the learner to draft their ideas for discussion.
This tool enables me to develop scalable and accessible learning experiences, which incorporate self-assessments and immediate feedback while minding the budget. I've created adaptive learning experiences, and laboratory training materials in this tool, and integrated (using LTI or iframe) H5P interactive content into Articulate Rise courses, and several LMSs like Canvas, D2L Brightspace, or Moodle.
